DnBassador spreads the Adelaide Sound

This Month we catch up with rising young Drum ‘n' Bass DJ - DnBassador. Hailing from Adelaide, he started DJ'ing at the age of 15 and within only a few years found himself supporting some of the biggest DJs to pass through Australia, including Calyx, TeeBee, Dylan and Robyn Chaos among others. He currently runs ‘Pixelated' at Adelaide Superclub HQ. DnBassador will be performing the first Official 3 Deck Set at WOBBLE. You can download his latest mix here.

So, firstly tell us about your DJ name. What does it mean and represent?

I had so much trouble sorting out a DJ name. The way mine came about was one night I was watching the news. The presenter was talking about the ambassador of some country. That's when the name popped in my head - DnB and ambassador. Which has worked out well
because my main aim in DnB is to spread the music and make it as big and fun as we can get it.

How did you get into Drum 'n' Bass and how long have you been DJ'ing?

First time I got my taste of DnB was from a mate I was working with, he was from the Barossa and they would always have fairly big parties on vacant land. It wasn't that hard to get hooked on DnB at that that time because tunes like DJ Hype - Ready or Not, Dillinja - Twist Em Out and all the huge Bad Company tunes where getting' dropped! I started DJ'ing about 6 years ago now and still learning. That's the best thing about music is that you will always learn.

How is the Adelaide scene at the moment and how has it changed since you've been involved?

The Adelaide scene is good but it's very up and down. But we are still getting' most quality artists. In my opinion there is too many festivals on these days so it drains so many people and they use all their money. Underground and I have defiantly influenced the harder sounds in Adelaide. We have done shows with artists like Limewax, Evol Intent, Spor, Raiden and many more which were all rammed with people. MPK and I also do a night called Everybody which includes 40 DnB DJ's so they can get a taste of mixing in a club environment which always works well. I'm in the middle of producing a new night pretty simular to WOBBLE. It includes a new venue and sound system similar to Heartical Hi Fi. But my main focus is just to help make DnB bigger in Adelaide.

Are there many Producers living in Adelaide?

We are actually blessed with a lot of quality producers in Adelaide. Drum and Bass wise we have Well Being, Mark 7, Djon and Skyver which have released a few things but the future is bright with guys like Syme, Nick Hart, Sammy Source, Rummage, Fiction, Jason, Pwerf and loads more producing top notch stuff!

What can we expect from you at Wobble?

Basically, when crew ask me what to expect from me it's simple Drum ‘n' Bass! I play everything from jump up, rollers, amens, dark, nasty, dancefloor, tech you name it, it's all Drum ‘n' Bass. In my sets I aim for if you don't like this tune I'm playing you're going to love the next one. But for WOBBLE I have packed some of my favourite tunes from the past and present all blended into a 3 deck set with all the freshest releases.
